Seminars on education about the dangers of narcotic drugs and alcohol for the students from Grade 6 to 11 were held on 9th, 13th and 23rd of March 2025, at St. Mary’s Church – Navanthurai, Our Lady of Sinthathirai Hall – Chaddy and St. James’ Church, – Gurunagar respectively.  Eighty-four (84) Students (34 girls & 38 boys) from Navanthurai, sixty-one (61) students (34 girls & 27 boys) from Palaly and 87 students (45 girls & 42 boys) from Gurunagar participated in the seminars.

This seminars were conducted under the project ‘Educational Assistance to Economic Crisis & War Affected Poor Children in Northern Province of Sri Lanka 2024/25’, funded by Caritas Korea through the National Centre, Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC (CSL).

Revd. Fr. Jesuratnam, Parish Priest of St. Mary’s Church, Navanthurai, Revd. Fr. Sutharsan, Parish Priest, Palaly and Revd. Fr.A.J. Yavis, Parish Priest, St. James’ Church Gurunagar gave introduction speech to the students respectively. The seminars were conducted by Mr. K.Pirunthapan, Drug Prevention Officer, Divisional Secretariat, Jaffna, and Mr. R. Sharveswara, Lecturer, Department of Educaiton, University of Jaffna and Mr. T. Neelamparam, Skill Development District Coordinator, District Secretariat Jaffna.

This seminars were organised with the guidance of Revd. Fr. S. Eugene Francis, Director, HUDEC-Caritas Jaffna; by Miss. Nithila Mariampillai, Programme Manager and Miss. Dorin Kawsalya, Finance Officer of HUDEC-Caritas Jaffna.
